What is it like to go on a night out with Bella Hadid? Well, according to the model, the tone of the night is set by the getting-ready process.
“I really enjoy the whole process,” she told us when sending over her photo diary from the Dior, Art of Colour exhibition in Arles, France, last week. “I’m lucky to have the best glam team! My make-up artist Naoko Scintu and my hairstylist Jen Atkin truly have the best energy and we always the best time creating looks together. We mostly listen to hip hop when we’re getting ready – Drake is nearly always in the playlist.”
Since the exhibition focuses on Dior’s beauty history, from Serge Lutens through to current Dior make-up creative and image director, Peter Philips, the make-up look for the night required particularly careful planning.
“Bella’s look was loosely based on a Christy Turlington vibe in the early Nineties but we wanted to keep the make-up modern, so skin was kept super fresh and dewy with brows filled in with Diorshow Brow Styler in Universal Dark Brown,” explained Scintu. “We used a champagne pink fluid shadow by Dior Addict on her eyelids to replicate the feeling of summer in the South of France – where we were in Arles – and lashings of mascara on the outer corners of the eyes for a sexy feline effect.”
Lips were kept semi-glossy with Dior’s much-loved Lip Maximizer, a product Hadid has picked out as a favourite in the past. And nails? “I currently have a nude pink. Going from show to show this week and with attending so many events I just like to keep them as fresh and neutral as possible,” the model confided.
The dress, too, had a summery and youthful sensibility ideal for the South of France: “Bella and I loved the new Dior Resort collection and she wanted something that felt elegant and timeless, but with a little bohemian vibe, so the lightweight lace corset gown we chose was just perfect for Arles,” her stylist Elizabeth Sulcer added.
A quick dip in the pool before hair and make-up, a bite to eat before heading out for the night, a wander through the pretty streets of Arles with fellow model Winnie Harlow, and an exhibition hosted by the brand she calls her “family”? Sounds like a fun night out to us.
